I've been using BackBlaze for about 4 years. Here are my answers to your questions. Yes XMP sidecar files are backed up. For example, you add a photo to your hard drive on Feb 14 and BackBlaze backs it up. On Feb 16 you change the photo. BackBlaze backs up the Feb 16 changes and keeps a copy of the Feb 14 one as a version. I'm speaking from the perspective of a site, like Backblaze, where web app and the site fulfill two separate functions.
